The PPG membership profile consists of 19 members.  All are caucasian and ages vary from 30-75. There is both male and female representation on the Group.  


Meetings are held on a Thursday and the day/times of meetings are reviewed on an ongoing basis to ensure they are suitable for attendees.


We  utilise the PPG to look at ways we  can improve our service to patients/the local population and also ascertain how users perceive our surgery and staff.

In addition to this, we have a virtual patient representation group where they can have their say. We will ask the members of this representative group some questions from time to time, such as what they think about our opening times or the quality of the care or service  received.  We also contact patients via email and keep our surveys succinct so it doesn’t take too much time.

We aim to gather around a hundred patients from as broad a spectrum as possible t o get a truly representative sample. We need young people, workers, retirees, people with long term conditions and people from non-British ethnic groups.


The surgery makes every effort to recruit patients to the PPG group. This includes notices on our notice boards, messages on our internal TV system, word of mouth via existing members and advertising of the group on the website.


Anyone who is interested in participating in the PPG should speak to the Practice Manager or alternatively the reception team.


Regular meetings are held, which are minuted and actions noted/followed up at following meetings.  


The main issue resulting in ongoing  discussion is in relation to primary care access,  versus demand for appointments.     Opening hours and extended  hours timing (as shown on the website) are deemed acceptable by the PPG.  However,  using complaint data, feedback from patients presenting in the practice/ringing in and also discussion/agreement at the PPG, the booking of appointments has been significantly changed within the Group resulting in ‘book on the day’ appointments being kept free for patients who ring in/arrive first thing in the morning at the practice.  This is being reviewed on an ongoing basis by the practice in conjunction with the PPG. 



An annual survey is carried out to ascertain patients views on service provision.  This year following discussion at the PPG, a survey was taken in conjunction with the discussions being held at Ashford Clinical Commissioning Group on 2014/15 service provision /secondary care services.    The format of the survey was a tick box questionnaire handed out to the PFG and also all patients attending the practice between October 13 to date.  It asked patients to comment on secondary care services they wished to see provided closer to home.  The result was that 8% of patients wished to continue to receive their secondary care provision at the acute trust, with the remainder wishing to see a number of services provided in the primary care setting which included rheumatology, ENT, audiology, ultrasound to name a few.


The results of the survey have been fed back to the Ashford Clinical Commissioning Group which will inform the 2014 Commissioning Plan for  future service provision in Ashford.  The Survey will be published on the website in April 2014.
